FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

XILINX SHIPS WORLD'S HIGHEST DENSITY FPGA

Virtex-E delivers programmable industry’s first 0.15 micron copper technology

SAN JOSE, Calif., July 31, 2000 —Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ:XLNX) today announced it has begun shipment of its newest and highest density production FPGA, the Virtex™ XCV3200E -- the world's largest programmable logic device.

Manufactured on 0.15 micron copper technology, and with more than three million system gates, the Virtex XCV3200E offers 40 percent more logic resources and 90 percent more on-chip block RAM than the closest competing device. In addition, the Virtex XCV3200E, unlike competing offerings, features up to an additional 1Mbit of distributed RAM on the chip.  On-chip memory resources are becoming increasingly important as system designers use FPGAs more and more to handle large streams of data in high bandwidth communication equipment and video/imaging applications.

"The scalability of the Virtex-E architecture allows us to increase the logic and RAM density and still maintain the high- performance we set as the FPGA standard," said Dennis Segers, senior vice president and general manager of the Advanced Products Group at Xilinx.  "This unprecedented combination of performance and density, coupled with the Xilinx Modular Team Based Design methodology and IP Solutions, offers a flexible, programmable solution for the next generation of systems. And with the new configuration memories we also announced today, Xilinx is providing leadership with a two-chip solution for three million gate designs."

"The Virtex-E FPGAs from Xilinx have supported our efforts to minimize product development time.  We can emulate the hardware design while we develop system software and run diagnostics in the lab," said Mahmoud Tabiatnejad, director of FPGA/ASIC engineering for RiverDelta Networks, a manufacturer of high-performance routers in Tewksbury, Massachusetts.   "The additional logic and RAM in the XCV3200E offer even more capacity for future enhancements of our new high speed trunk module.  This is how we can rapidly respond to our customers' needs for greater bandwidth and more features."

The Virtex-E family, now shipping in densities ranging from 50,000 to three million system gates, represents the fastest ramping product line in the history of the industry.  The XCV3200E device is produced on a state-of-the-art 0.15 micron copper process and operates at 1.8V core voltage. In addition to expansive on-chip memory resources, the Virtex-E FPGAs feature eight digital delay locked loops (DLLs) for on- and off-chip clock management and programmable support for multiple differential signaling standards, including LVPECL, LVDS and Bus LVDS.  Virtex-E devices can support a system application of multiple I/O ports running collectively faster than 10Gbits per second.

The Virtex-E family is supported in the Xilinx Alliance™ Series v3.1i software release.  The Alliance Series design flow enhancements include modular design for teams of engineers working together, dramatic runtime improvements for timing closure, incremental design flows, and hierarchical floor planning for designs of up to ten million gates. The Alliance Series can be integrated with synthesis tools from Synopsys, Exemplar, and Synplicity.  All of these capabilities further enhance the time-to-market advantages of Xilinx programmable logic technology.

Pricing and Availability
The Virtex XCV3200E is sampling now and is available in a CG1156 ball grid array package.  Production is expected to begin in August.  High volume pricing for the XCV3200E will be less than $1,000 in the fourth quarter of 2001.
