XILINX VIRTEX SERIES SURPASSES $25 MILLION IN REVENUE

Fastest product ramp in PLD industry history
for the high-density, high performance FPGA family

SAN JOSE, Calif., August 2, 1999—Xilinx, Inc., (NASDAQ:XLNX) today announced that its lead product family, the Virtex FPGA series, has now reached $25 million in cumulative sales. This is tallied since the product was announced in October 1998, which included the industry's first million-gate FPGA. This achievement represents the fastest revenue growth for any programmable logic device.

"In roughly 10 months, the Virtex family has achieved a revenue milestone untouched by any other programmable architecture in the history of our industry for a comparable time period. Compared to our flagship XC4000 FPGA family—the industry's all–time, most successful programmable logic family—the Virtex series is ramping between three and four times faster," said Wim Roelandts, president and CEO of Xilinx. "This is a testament to the enormous popularity of the Virtex series—an FPGA that has truly redefined the use of programmable logic."

All nine devices that were announced last year are in production. These Virtex devices are found in the traditional programmable logic markets, networking, telecommunications, and data communications, as well as HDTV, cellular base stations, cable modems, and DSL modems. Moreover, the company is seeing higher demand for the Virtex devices in each of these areas.

"Our customers are designing in the Virtex FPGAs much earlier in the design cycle, which leads to a faster ramp to production for them and shortens their design cycles," added Roelandts.

About the Virtex series

The nine Virtex devices range from 50,000– to 1,000,000–system gate densities with 200 MHz chip-to-chip performance. The Virtex family features four, fully digital, delay locked loops (DLLs) for internal and external clock synchronization, a hierarchy of memory resources, and SelectI/O technology for simultaneously interfacing to multiple voltage and signal standards. Combined with Alliance Series and Foundation Series software, Virtex FPGAs offer unprecedented system–level integration capabilities.
