XILINX ANNOUNCES XPOWER
POWER ANALYSIS SOFTWARE FOR FPGA DESIGN

SAN JOSE, Calif., November 20, 2000— Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ:XLNX), the leader in programmable logic solutions, today announced the early release of XPowerTM software, a new design tool for estimating power use in XilinxÒ FPGAs. This new product complements the Xilinx Platform FPGA initiative offering customers design tools for high-performance logic design.

Power estimation that takes place during design

XPower software provides an interactive power dissipation estimation capability for designers using Xilinx programmable logic. This new member of the Xilinx software suite employs the same device characterization data as used by the existing Xilinx design implementation tools. The XPower software considers device data, along with the user's design files, to report estimated device power consumption at a level of accuracy previously unavailable to users of programmable logic devices.

"XPower allows these designers to see early estimates of device power consumption based on their design data bringing a significant advantage to our customers doing high-density design," said Bill Gregorak, director of Software Marketing at Xilinx.

A wide range of device support

Currently the XPower software supports the VirtexÒ, Virtex-E, and SpartanÒ-II families of FPGA devices. Future releases of the XPower tool are expected to support the design toggle rate data generated by leading HDL simulation tools to deliver even higher accuracy in power dissipation information. The XPower software will also be updated to analyze the CoolRunnerÒ CPLD family. In low power, handheld, and battery-driven applications where low power consumption is ideal, the XPower tool will offer a new level of predictability for design operation.

Availability

Customers currently using Xilinx design software can sign up to receive the early release of the XPower tool by contacting their local sales office or distributor. The early release the XPower tool is supported under Windows 98, Windows NT, and Solaris, and is offered at no charge. The tool will be integrated into the Xilinx ISETM software suite, scheduled for mid-2001.
