XILINX AND MICHIGAN STATE LAUNCH FIRST WEB SITE
TO SUPPORT UNIVERSITY ENGINEERING PROGRAMS

Resource provides worldwide online education forum

SAN JOSE, Calif., August 28, 2000- Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ: XLNX) in partnership with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Michigan State University, today announced the launch of the Xilinx University Program Resource Center web site at www.egr.msu.edu/xup-msu. The site is designed to support universities that include programmable logic technologies in their curriculum and use Xilinx products in classrooms and laboratories.

The web site serves as an extensive online sharing tool to unite engineering professors and students worldwide participating in the Xilinx University Program. The site provides access to current research and projects at participating universities as well as links and references related to electrical and computer engineering.  In addition, the site also contains an online support system consisting of a mailing list, discussion board and e-mail responses to questions which are posted.

“The new web resource brings universities from around the world together to share information and research on the forefront of new technology,” said Patrick Kane, manager of the Xilinx University Program.  “This site will provide a comprehensive forum for professors and students to explore an existing knowledge base and encourage new ideas in the process.”

The site was developed by the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Michigan State University to enhance collaborative research efforts among universities participating in the Xilinx University Program. A Xilinx scholarship valued at $100,000 provides funding for two graduate students from Michigan State University to manage and maintain the site.

“The Xilinx University Program Resource Center is a research tool that benefits both professors and students,” said Dr. Michael Shanblatt, professor of electrical and computer engineering at Michigan State University.  “Professors have access to teaching materials and assignments that improve classroom preparation and student interaction.  Students can easily access research and project tutorials that help to shorten the learning curve and increase participation.”

The Xilinx University Program maintains alliances with over 1,600 universities on every continent reaching over 150,000 students annually. For more information about other programs offered through the Xilinx University Program visit university.xilinx.com.
