Welcome to the Xilinx AppLINX CD-ROM!

The AppLINX CD-ROM provides Xilinx customers with a complete collection of support data in electronic form, complementing the Xilinx Development System CD-ROMs.  AppLINX contains the entire Xilinx web site, FTP site, data book, application notes, XCell journals, and other files, all gathered for easy access.

Installation

This AppLINX CD-ROM contains the Windows-based WebCD viewer for easy browsing and  searching.  Run setup.exe on the root of the CD-ROM to install.  Make sure you first close all HTML browsers.  Microsoft Internet Explorer will be installed only if no other browser is present.  Alternatively, you can install Netscape Navigator by running /netscape/n16e404.exe for Windows 3.1, or /netscape/n32e404.exe for Windows 95/NT.

An alternative for any platform, including workstations, is to use any HTML browser to navigate through the AppLINX CD-ROM. After opening your HTML browser, select File - Open File... (Navigator) or File - Open - Open File... (Explorer) and then navigate to the \INDEX.HTM file on the root of the AppLINX CD-ROM. Or, start browsing from the AppLINX home page.  Go to the bookmarks page to find key content links.

WebCD Viewer

The WebCD Viewer operates on top of your browser.  As part of installation you can install Acrobat Reader, necessary for viewing Xilinx application notes and datasheets.  A Spartan Series presentation that runs under Windows 95/NT at the root of the AppLINX CD (spartan.exe).

A unique feature of the WebCD viewer is the ability to automatically load newer pages from the live Xilinx web site.  This feature requires that you have an Internet connection.  The option is described as "fresher" in an installation dialog.  The alternative, "faster", only reads from the CD-ROM.  The faster option is always used when there is no Internet connection, or can be set as the default.  The selection can be changed by selecting the Information/Help option in the WebCD Viewer's toolbar.

Most links will work even without an Internet connection, but search pages from the Xilinx web site require an Internet link and following the resulting links will take you to the Xilinx web site.  All links to third-party web sites require an Internet connection.  Internet links are indicated by the Internet Link  icon.

Acrobat

You may use the Adobe Acrobat reader, available on the CD-ROM. Windows versions are installed automatically.  Alternatively, go to the Adobe web site for the latest files and complete instructions (www.adobe.comInternet Link).

Acrobat can be run as a plug-in to your browser, allowing seamless navigation of the CD.  Open Acrobat outside your browser to allow searching across all the Acrobat files on the CD. You may choose to start with the root file APPLINX.PDF.
