XCHECKER: Is the HW-XCH3V adapter necessary with 3.3V XL or L devices?
Record #275
Problem Title:
XCHECKER: Is the HW-XCH3V adapter necessary with 3.3V XL or L devices?
Problem Description:
Urgency: Standard
General Description: The 3V X-Checker Adapter, HW-XCH3V, is
specified to be used in 3 Volt Systems. However, since the "XL"
is 3.3V native and 5V tolerant, can the user go without using
the adapter? How the "L" devices?
Solution 1:
XL devices:
A 3V adaptor is needed because the XL device should not see a 5V Vcc
for reliability reasons. If the power supply is separated from the
Xchecker cable, then it should post no problem to use the cable
without the adaptor because all XL I/O's are 5V tolerant. Basically,
the Xchecker cable still requires a 5v source unless it has the 3V
adapter.
L devices:
See Xilinx Solution 1297 for details of using 2000L, 3000L,4000L, or
5200L devices with the Xchecker cable.
See Xilinx Solution 1907 for details of 3.3V devices and their 5V
counterparts.
