Protel 2.2 wirelister can cause XNFPREP Error 3520 due to misplaced xnf files

Record #501

Problem Title:
Protel 2.2 wirelister can cause XNFPREP Error 3520 due to misplaced xnf files

Problem Description:

Solution 1:

PROGRAM: Protel Advanced Schematic

VERSION: 2.2

PLATFORM(s): PC

SHORT DESCRIPTION:

Protel's wirelister doesn't write macro xnf files to the current directory.

ERROR MESSAGE:

XNFPREP: ERROR 3520:
The following are invalid primitives in part `3020PC68-125'.
       Symbol Type = <macroname> ; Symbol Name = <symbolname> ;
       Output Signal = <symbolname>

LONG DESCRIPTION:

PROBLEM:

The Protel Technology Advanced Schematic has a 5.0 xnf wirelister. However,
the resulting netlists fail while running xnfprep or xmake, producing
error 3520.

CAUSE:

The macro xnf files contained in the library are not copied to the design
directory. As a result, xnfmerge can't find these netlists. The .mrg report
will show errors, but this won't stop xmake from running. The current version
of the software doesn't know it needs to write these files to the design
directory.

SOLUTION:

Set the -D option for xnfmerge to point to the Protel Library for the
targeted chip.

For example:

xnfmerge -D c:\advsch\library\xilinx4k
