** OBSOLETE ** CADENCE: How the Cadence/Xilinx schematic Interface software is obtained
(DS-CDN, DS-381)
Problem Description:
Urgency: Standard
Problem Description:
Most of the Interfaces to the Alliance partner tools that Xilinx supports
directly (Viewlogic, Foundation, Mentor, Synopsys, Cadence, Orcad)
are on the XACTStep CD ROM; the user simply installs the interface off the
Xilinx CD and obtains the proper licensing from Xilinx to use it.
The Cadence interface is an exception, if you need schematic entry
support. This interface is sold as part of the DS-381 and DS-CDN-STD
packages, but is actually found on the same set of CDs shipped by Cadence
for its Concept, Composer, Rapidsim and Verilog-XL tools. Neither Cadence
nor Xilinx ships a separate CD for the Cadence Xilinx interface to Concept/Composer/Rapidsim/Verilog
; the Xilinx Core tools and the Cadence
Interfaces to all 4 tools are included on the Cadence CDs for
all Cadence releases ranging from 9404 to 9604.
- DS-381 is the Interface to Concept, Composer, Rapidsim and Verilog-XL only;
- DS-CDN is the Interface + Xilinx Core Tools (DS-502 and DS-550).
The user installs the Cadence/Xilinx interface (libraries and translators)
from the appropriate Cadence release CD ROM set, then gets the licenses to
activate it.
To get the licenses needed to run the Cadence interface executables, the
customer must fill out a request form for these licenses and send it
to Xilinx Customer Service. They can get this license request form from
their Xilinx sales representative. Xilinx Customer Service simply faxes
the request to Cadence Customer Service, which in turn generates and
sends out the licenses to authorize DS-381 or DS-CDN-STD, as appropriate.
Up until their 9504 release, Cadence also shipped the Xilinx Core Tools on
the same set of CDs as the
Concept, Composer, Verilog and Rapidsim tools and Xilinx interfaces, but at
any given time, the revision of the XACT tools may be one step behind
that of the current version offered by Xilinx (For example, the Cadence
release 9504 CD contains XACT 5.2.0, not 5.2.1). In this situation, the customer may request an upd
ate from Xilinx customer service.
If the user only needs a Verilog interface, they can use the ES-Verilog
interface that is shipped on the XACT Core Tools CD for HP and Sun4
workstations. Refer to Xilinx Solution #1107 for more information.
NOTE: 9604 is the last release from Cadence that will include the Xilinx
Core Tools.
