Problem Title:
CPLD: XC9500: What is the Power consumption/dissipation of a 9500 device?

Problem Description:

Urgency: Standard

General Description:

What is the Power consumption/dissipation of a 9500 device?

Solution 1:

Operating current for an XC9500 design can be approximated
for specific operating conditions using the following
equation :

Icc(mA)=MChp (1.7) + MClp (0.9) + MC (0.006 mA/MHz) f

Where :

MChp = Macrocells in high-performance mode

MClp = Macrocells in low-power mode

MC = Total number of macrocells used

f = clock frequency in Mhz

Power dissipation can be reduced in the XC9500 by configuring
macrocells to standard or low-power modes of operation.
Unused macrocells are turned off to minimize power dissipation.

Typical Icc vs. Frequency graphs are available for the various
XC9500 devices the latest Xilinx Programmable Logic
Data Book.

Please refer to this chapter for more information on low-power
mode as well as additional information on the specific XC9500
device you are targeting.

Solution 2:

To obtain power, multiply Vccint by Icc
for the sake of overall power, the i/o voltages are
negligible with respect to the power calculation.
