Hardwire: Power consumption?

Record #1965

Problem Title:
Hardwire: Power consumption?

Problem Description:
Urgency: Standard

General Description: What is the general rule of power
consumption between a FPGA and a Hardwire device?

Solution 1:

The power consumption is typically slightly less (10%)
compared to that of a FPGA. However, the power differences
are *VERY* design dependent. If most power is used in I/O
switching in the FPGA, then there is very little power
difference between the FPGA and the HardWire device. If most
of the power is in the logic, then there is a larger power
reduction. Currently, Xilinx doesn't have a software tool to
predict the difference.
