WINDOWS NT: General debugging suggestions on handling Dr. Watson Errors
Problem Description:
Urgency: standard
General Description:
Suggestions on debugging Dr. Watson Errors are described
below:
Solution 1:
First, refer to (Xilinx Solution 3019) for an explanation on
what a Dr. Watson error is.
On Windows NT, a Dr. Watson error is the equivalent of a
core dump on UNIX.
You will usually see a popup that says something similar
to the following:
Exception access violation: <name_of_executable>
An application error has occurred:
An application log file has been generated
Java.exe Exception: Access violation 0xc00000005
0x01efd514
You can usually view the contents of the log file in your
WINNT directory. The name of the log file is drwtsn32.log.
When you get the Dr. Watson error, try doing
a Ctrl-Alt-Delete to call up the Windows Task Manager.
Note what programs are listed in the Task Manager window,
and try killing these one at a time to see if one of these
is causing a conflict.
Specific solutions on Dr. Watson errors produced by certain
applications/programs also exist. Please search the solutions
database at http://www.xilinx.com/support/searchtd.htm for
more information.
