FPGA Express v2.0.3: Express reports that "Export of Chip Failed" or similar message when trying to export XNF netlist

Product Family: Software

Product Line: Synopsys

Product Part: FPGA Express

Product Version: 2.0.3

Problem Title:
FPGA Express v2.0.3: Express reports that "Export of Chip Failed" or similar message when trying to export XNF netlist

Problem Description:
Urgency: Standard

General Description:
FPGA Express may generate an error when the user attempts to export an XNF
netlist. The error is typically of the form:

"Export of chip failed"

or some similar message.

Solution 1:

The user should first check the warning messages that FPGA Express has
generated. Many warning messages can be safely ignored, but sometimes FPGA
Express will report warnings that do not allow the exportation of the netlist.

The user may notice that an XNF file is, in fact, generated, however. If the
warnings referred to design errors, then this file might not be implementable
in M1. The warnings should first be corrected and then the netlist should
be exported again.

However, it has been seen upon occasion that FPGA Express will report that a
netlist could not be exported despite the lack of any notable warning messages. In this case, the XNF file should exist and be of legal netlist format. The
error message that Express produces about not being able to export the netlist
is attributed to a problem in the cleanup process when writing the netlist.
In most cases, the error message can be safely ignored and the XNF file is
valid.

These issues are due to a variety of sources and are fixed in the incremental
releases built by Synopsys. See (Xilinx Solution 3566) to upgrade to the
latest version of FPGA Express available to you. If the latest version of
Express still exhibits the problem, then Synopsys would like to see your
design so they can fix the problem. Please open a case with a Xilinx Support
Engineer and send in the design, if possible.
