V1.5, V1.4 COREGEN INSTALL, WINDOWS NT: uninstall "setup failed to initialize" error when installing on Windows NT

Record #4306

Product Family: Software

Product Line: Coregen

Product Part: Coregen

Problem Title:
V1.5, V1.4 COREGEN INSTALL, WINDOWS NT: uninstall "setup failed to initialize" error when installing on Windows NT

Problem Description:
Urgency: standard

General Description:
During COREGen install on a Windows NT 4.0 machine, you
may see the following message:

"Cannot start access _uninstaller, you may not
be able to uninstall the product."

This message comes up after you make all your install
product selections, just before the files are copied over.
COREGen is installed and works fine, but the uninstall does
not work.

This problem appears to come up on Windows NT machines the
first time you run an InstallShield application on it.

It may be due to some NT permissions being set incorrectly
when you run InstallShield for the first time.

Solution 1:

You can also do a manual uninstall by simply deleting the
Coregen folder. The only drawback of this approach
is that the Windows registry entries do not get cleared out,
but this usually does not cause a problem.

Solution 2:

One solution is to re-install the software as Windows NT
Administrator.
