M1 PAR: What is an "antenna" in the context of the place and route program, PAR?
Record #5104
Product Family: Software M1 PAR: What is an "antenna" in the context of the place and route program, PAR? Problem Description: Urgency: standard General Description: What is an "antenna" in the context of the place and route program, PAR? Solution 1: An antenna is a routing stub that has only one connection-- that is, it has a source, but does not terminate at a pin. PAR is supposed to make sure that it does not leave any antennas in a placed and routed design, so if the design was routed by PAR and you see errors about antennas in the design, this is a bug that needs to be fixed. If the design was edited by the user using EPIC, then antennas may appear if one of the signals was not routed completely. Antennas may or may not affect the design, depending upon whether or not the signal in question makes all the connections it really needs. Also, they can have an unfavorable effect on noise immunity if the signal in question switches at a high frequency. End of Record #5104 - Last Modified: 12/01/98 09:04 |
