Record #5304

Product Family: Hardware

Product Line: Virtex

Product Part: V300

Problem Title:

Virtex:	What is an IBUFG and what can I use it for?

Problem Description:
Urgency: Standard

General Description: What is the IBUFG primitive in Virtex and
what can I use it for?

Solution 1:

The IBUFG is a dedicated clock input pin for a DLL or associated BUFG. There are four of these pins , one for each
DLL/BUFG.

They are input only and can use one of the many input voltage
standards available. Banking rules will need to be followed
and the associated bank number can be found on the Virtex
datasheets for that particular device/package comibination.

The IBUFG has a dedicated route to it's associated DLL. This
ensures smallest delay and increased accuracy in use of the
DLL. However, the DLL inputs can be driven by other device
pins. Similarly, the IBUFG can be routed to user logic and
does not have to be routed to a DLL.

Please keep in mind that by not using the IBUFG for an input
to the DLL, you are introducing additional delay.
