Problem Title:
XPLA Architecture: Differences between CPLDs and FPGAs.
Problem Description:
Urgency: Standard
General Description: What is the difference between a CPLD and a
FPGA?
Solution 1:
A CPLD has much more deterministic timing than an FPGA. It is based
upon some sort of PAL, PLA or combination which makes it better for
wide product term expressions.
An FPGA is typically an SRAM based device comprised of logic cells
which contain registers and look up tables for logic expression
generation. The timing through an FPGA will be routing dependant.
