2.1i Virtex PAR: par.exe, exception:access violation (0x0000005), address: 0x05f07efd

Record #7628

Product Family: Software

Product Line: FPGA Implementation

Product Part: par

Product Version: 2.1i

Problem Title:

2.1i Virtex PAR: par.exe, exception:access violation (0x0000005), address: 0x05f07efd

Problem Description:
Urgency: standard

General Description:

When running a design through 2.1i the following application error is flagged:

par.exe
Exception: Access Violation (0x0000005), Address : 0x05f07efd

This crash, occurring during placement, was found to be due to the existence of single component hard macros (.nmc files) n the design.

Solution 1:

This problem can be worked around by unbinding all single component hard macros in the design:

1. Load mapped design into FPGA Editor
2. Set List Window to "All Macros"
3. Select macro
4. Edit-->Unbind Macro
5. Repeat for all single component macros
5. Save new .ncd file

Note: Multiple macros can be selected using shift, then shift-select. The unbind operation can then be run on all selected macros in one step.

Solution 2:

This problem is scheduled to be fixed in the next (as yet unnamed)
release following version 2.1i. This release is currently scheduled
for March, 2000.
