Virtex-E: Are the Virtex-E I/O pins 5V compatible?

Record #7880

Product Family: Software

Product Line: FPGA Implementation

Product Part: VirtexE Pro-Unified Libs

Problem Title:
Virtex-E: Are the Virtex-E I/O pins 5V compatible?

Problem Description:
Urgency: Standard

General Description: Are the Virtex-E I/O pins 5V compatible?

Solution 1:

Due to the Virtex-E advanced process and architecture, it is not
possible to directly apply 5.0V to the IO pins of Virtex-E. However,
the LVTTL input buffer configuration has been modified to provide a
clamp to VCCO (3.3v). This feature in conjunction with an external
100ohm resistor will limit the current enough to not damage the
clamp diode and allow 5V tolerance.

Note 1: This is NOT possible for PCI 5.0V systems, use Virtex in this case.
Note 2: Never directly apply 5V to a Virtex-E pin.
