Virtex: Can Virtex Inputs be driven by input voltages lower that -500mV?

Record #8383

Problem Title:
Virtex: Can Virtex Inputs be driven by input voltages lower that -500mV?

Problem Description:
Urgency: Standard

Problem Description:

Can Virtex Inputs be driven by voltages under the minimum spec of -500mV?
For example, If one drives them with -750mV, what would happen to the device.

Solution 1:

The Virtex IO buffers have a clamp diode to GND that will turn on at ~-500mV.
Exceeding -500mV will cause excess current to to be sunk to ground.

The reliability of the buffer will not be affected by a short spurt of the undershoot transient. However, If the buffer is held at below -500mV, such as -750mV, for a extended periods of time, reliabilty could become a concern.
