Record #8518
Problem Title:
Parallel Cable: How is it possible to power the parallel cable with 3.3V and 5V without an
adaptor?
Problem Description:
Urgency: Standard
General Description:
How does the parallel cable work for 3.3V and 2.5V, without an adapter?
Solution 1:
The parallel cable can be powered from 2.5V to 5V. However, it can only interface with 3.3V and 5V
logic
levels reliably. The buffers (74HC125) do not do any sort of logic level translation. The buffers
used in
the parallel cable are only designed to be powered with a wide VCC range. They were not designed
to do any sort of level translation. Do not use the parallel cable to configure a part that interfaces
at 2.5V
levels. If you need to do this, you will need to provide your own level shifter.
