Campus-REXThe power of Campus-REX

Traditional methods of linking campus sites and users - using routers with expensive wide area network (WAN) ports—turns a relatively simple connectivity requirement into a complicated internetworking decision. The router approach requires large capital investments and is difficult to manage and maintain. Remote users working in the same department very often end up in different logical subnets.

With the Campus-REX, this campus connectivity is greatly simplified. It eliminates routers and replaces expensive, maintenance-intensive WAN ports with low-cost, easy-to-manage Ethernet ports. Based on typical router cost-per-port, connectivity with the Campus-REX can be achieved for about one third the price.

Campus-REX is a revolutionary new, highbandwidth Ethernet bridge. It uses HDSL, a technology PairGain pioneered and the copper that already lives between your campus-area network buildings. There is no need for special line

conditioning. Free from the performance, distance and cost limitations of competing solutions, you can be up-and-running at fiber optic quality (10 '° BER) virtually in hours. And once you're plugged in to the HDSL technology of Campus-REX, you're connected at T1/E1 speeds at distances of up to 5 miles apart—well beyond the range of competing solutions.

The first remote Ethernet bridge with an integrated HDSL transceiver, Campus-REX enables low-cost point-to-point LAN connectivity delivering 30 times the performance of subrate DSU/CSUs. It significantly lowers the cost of deployment and ownership, while dramatically improving performance. Campus-REX provides transparent LAN access, high filtering and forwarding rates, with up to 75 percent of Ethernet throughput...all using your existing copper infrastructure.
