XILINX BREAKS GROUND FOR NEW CORPORATE HEADQUARTERS IN SAN JOSE

Company adopts local elementary school to enrich educational programs

SAN JOSE, Calif., February 13, 1998 - Anticipating continued growth, Xilinx, Inc., (NASDAQ: XLNX) today ceremoniously kicked off the construction of a new corporate headquarters building that will allow the company to increase by more than 50 percent its employee base currently working at the company's San Jose campus. At the ceremonies, the company announced a new adopt-a-school program with Edwin Oster Elementary School in San Jose. The school will directly benefit from the corporate and education partnership through multiple volunteer programs.

The $31 million, 180,000 square foot facility, which will accommodate about 600 new workers, is scheduled for completion this fall. It will house executive, corporate, sales, and marketing staff. Xilinx currently employs about 1,000 persons in the bay area. The company develops, manufacturers, and markets programmable logic products, including programmable logic integrated circuits and the software tools customers use to program the chips.

"This project marks another major step in our company's on-going efforts for expansion," said Xilinx President and CEO Wim Roelandts, who spoke during a groundbreaking ceremony attended by local elected officials, neighborhood organizations, and other dignitaries. "Xilinx has had a record of uninterrupted growth and profitability since it was founded 14 years ago. This new building will give us the elbowroom necessary to continue that tradition well into the next century."

"Innovative and pioneering companies like Xilinx have helped to make San Jose the capital of the high-technology industry," said San Jose Mayor Susan Hammer. "As a model corporate citizen, Xilinx continues to draw the world's best talent to the Bay Area. I am delighted to congratulate Xilinx and its employees on their continued growth in San Jose."

"Xilinx has been a tremendous neighbor and supporter over the years," said Linda Carpenter, director of the Santa Clara County Children's Shelter. The shelter is located adjacent to the Xilinx campus. "The children have benefited from the financial generosity of Xilinx and the time its employees have given in volunteering at the shelter, sponsoring activities such as Halloween parties and participating in mentoring programs. We look forward to continuing this wonderful relationship."

"Furthermore, we view this ceremony as an opportunity to give back to the hospitable community of San Jose through our adopt-a-school program with Oster Elementary School," continued Roelandts. Projects for this partnership include student mentoring programs and a Rolling Readers program in which employees read to the younger students, donations of computers and office equipment, and inviting the Oster teaching staff to attend Xilinx training seminars.

The new Xilinx corporate headquarters, the fourth building on the local campus, contains many environmentally friendly attributes in its construction. Building materials are sustainable, recyclable, and re-usable. Berg and Berg Development is constructing the core and shell and architects Dennis Kobza and Associates is contracted for the design. The Hopkinson Group is responsible for the interior design and L and S Hallmark Construction will do the interior tenant improvements.

The new San Jose building is the latest in a string of new construction projects Xilinx has undertaken in the last two years. In 1996, the company officially opened a second 100,000 square foot manufacturing facility near Dublin, Ireland, which fulfills demand for the company's products in Europe. Last year Xilinx completed construction of a new 60,000 square foot building in Boulder, Colo., where some of the company's software is developed. The company employs approximately 1,400 persons worldwide with offices throughout Europe and Asia. The company reported 1997 calendar year revenues of $611.5 million, up eight percent from the previous year, and net income of $126.4 million, up 11 percent from 1996.
