FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SAN JOSE, Calif., Developers' Conference—June 29, 1998—Xilinx Inc., (NASDAQ:XLNX) and AllianceCORE partner Integrated Intellectual Property, Inc., ( I2P) Santa Clara, CA., jointly announce today at the 1394 Developers Conference in San Jose, CA., the immediate availability of a complete programmable logic solution for the IEEE 1394 FireWire standard. At the conference this week, I2P will present a paper and a demonstration of the solution which includes the 1394 SuperLINKCORE FireWire Link Layer core optimized for the Xilinx XC4000 FPGA family, a hardware evaluation board, and software drivers. "The I2P FireWire core is designed to handle digital video and audio data streams, making it suitable for multimedia applications," said Mark Bowlby, manager of the Xilinx AllianceCORE program. "The core, evaluation board, and drivers demonstrate I2P's commitment to complete solutions, a hallmark of the AllianceCORE program, and future versions of the core will add features that will support mass storage, printer, and scanner applications." "Our engineers were able to quickly and easily convert the Verilog source code to an optimized 50 MHz board-level implementation in a Xilinx XC4000XL FPGA," said Milan Gandhi, CEO of I2P. "The Xilinx Foundation Express development tools were critical to our success in meeting a tight time frame." I2P’s SuperLINKCore FPGA version is designed to be compliant with the IEEE 1394-1995 standard specification. The core has a very simple local bus interface to a PCI bridge chip from V3 Semiconductor, Inc. The core supports isochronous and cycle master transfers. The core is targeted towards 1394 audio/video applications. A Verilog RTL representation of the FPGA version is optionally available for customization for an additional cost. I2P’s Xilinx-based demo board is a general-purpose board designed using Texas Instruments’ 1394 physical layer chip. It supports data throughput speeds up to 200 Mbps and is connected to the FPGA that implements the 1394 Link Core. The board also provides PCI bus, parallel port, and PCMCIA interfaces. It uses an AMD microcontroller with an off-chip 256 KB dual-port ram. Another Xilinx FPGA provides additional capacity for user logic making it easy to test the entire hardware design. I2P also provides the general purpose SuperLINKCore in Verilog RTL format along with a robust functional verification environment—Super1394Sim. The environment includes simulation models for Link and Physical layers, a LINK/PHY monitor, a verification checklist, a complete suite of test benches, and optional 1394 software drivers. All products are available today directly from Integrated Intellectual Property, Inc. Call I2P at 408-260-3970 for pricing.
