SAN JOSE, Calif., June 23, 1997—Xilinx, Inc., (NASDAQ:XLNX), today announced the availability of eight new verified cores that allow digital designers to implement a variety of peripheral functions in programmable logic devices. Three members of the Xilinx AllianceCORE program developed the new cores: ARM Semiconductor (USA) Inc., Memec Design Services, and Integrated Silicon Systems (ISS).

"Intellectual property core technology will be a necessity for programmable logic suppliers to increase their business as logic densities, as well as functional requirements, continue to increase. As densities reach into the millions of gates per design, the market will limit the number PLD suppliers who can afford to compete without this technology," said Jerry Worchel, principal ASIC analyst at In-Stat. "Xilinx is on the leading-edge of core technology among PLD suppliers offering one of the oldest and broadest core programs in the industry. Having Xilinx pre-verified cores implemented in the device should assure the designer that the core will function as planned."

At the same time, the company announced the publication of the Xilinx CORE Solutions Data Book, a new 218-page catalog that contains a complete listing of core specifications for more than 70 products offered by Xilinx and third-parties. The catalog can be ordered through electronic mail by sending a request to literature@xilinx.com.

The new cores continue the momentum behind the Xilinx AllianceCORE program, announced in February, under which Xilinx partners with third-party intellectual property (IP) developers to deliver complete, pre-implemented system-level building blocks that have been tested and verified to operate in Xilinx programmable logic devices.

The eight new AllianceCORE products are available now, ranging in price from $1,500 to $10,000, depending on the core. They include:

"All of these new products are optimized for Xilinx FPGA devices and in some cases require half the logic resources of competing programmable logic products to implement the completed design, a definite plus for users," said Sandeep Vij, vice president of marketing at Xilinx. "Moreover, many of these cores already have been implemented successfully by Xilinx customers."
