SAN JOSE, Calif., March 10, 1997 -- Xilinx, Inc., (NASDAQ:XLNX), the world leader in CMOS programmable logic devices, today announced it is extending its HardWire^TM Array product offering with the Xilinx PCI+ solution. This solution provides customers with full PCI compliance, and up to 10,000 gates of customer specific logic for $19.50 in high volume. Customers developing designs using Xilinx XC4000E FPGA devices and LogiCORE^TM PCI modules can convert to a HardWire mask-programmed array and obtain a dramatic cost reduction and fast time to market for PCI applications.

"With the PCI+ solution, they can rapidly develop customer-specific PCI designs for high volume applications using Xilinx LogiCORE^TM PCI modules and FPGAs, then move to a very low cost mask-programmed HardWire Array."

Xilinx HardWire arrays and the associated conversion process were developed and patented by Xilinx to provide customers with a rapid, turn-key solution for mask-programmed conversion. The HardWire DesignLock^TM Conversion Process is an automatically mapped and verified process provided by Xilinx. Compared to competing gate array conversion services, no customer retargeting, verification, or test vectors are required for Xilinx to perform the conversion. Fast conversion from a customer FPGA design to an equivalent HardWire Array is provided with Xilinx.

The Xilinx LogiCORE program delivers the industry's first pre-implemented and fully verified PCI-Interface for FPGAs. Xilinx has licensed the LogiCORE PCI products to more than 200 electronic equipment manufacturers. The LogiCORE program offers the only 100 percent PCI compliant cores with predictable timing in the FPGA industry today. As a result, designers can dramatically cut development time, significantly reduce design risk, and have access to the best performance and lowest component cost available. Xilinx PCI modules operate at 33 MHz and can be integrated with high speed burst synchronous FIFOs, resulting in the highest transfer rate of any programmable solution in the industry. They can be customized to fit individual design requirements and allow additional logic for implementation of back-end functions, resulting in a cost effective single chip solution.

Pricing and Availability

Typical production pricing for a HardWire with a PCI Target/Initiator LogiCORE module, two dual-port 32x16 FIFOs and up to 10,000 equivalent gates of customer specific logic in a 208-PQFP at 25,000 unit volumes is $19.50 A nominal Non-Recurring Engineering (NRE) charge applies.
