Timing Constraints in the UCF

Software & Version:
2.1i

Audience
Designers with Xilinx FPGA design experience.

Prerequisites
1) Getting Started class or significant FPGA design experience
2) Constraints Editor I module

What is the level of the material?
Level II - Intermediate

Training Duration
1 Hour

Content Description
This module will explain three popular timing constraints: (1) period, (2) offset, and (3)from:to. Examples will be given on how to use each in the User Constraints File (UCF).

Objectives
After completing this training, student will be able to:

  • Define the PERIOD and OFFSET constraints
  • State the syntax for the PERIOD and OFFSET constraint in the UCF
  • Explain the syntax of the FROM:TO constraint
  • Describe how to create a time group using TNM
