What is the status of the CoolRunner CPLDs?

Philips Semiconductor introduced the CoolRunner CPLD product line in 1996. Versions that operate at 3.3 volts (XPLA2 architecture) and 5 volts (XPLA architecture) are now in production and being shipped to major customers.  The new XPLA3 3.3 volt family has just been introduced by Xilinx.

What is the Xilinx manufacturing plan for the CoolRunner devices?

To assure uninterrupted product supply agreements have been put in place between Xilinx and Philips to continue production of CoolRunner CPLDs both at Philips manufacturing facilities in Europe and at fabs operated by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation in Taiwan.

Will the CoolRunner devices continue to be manufactured at their respective facilities?

Yes, Philips Semiconductors and Xilinx have a 2 year agreement signed on August 12, 1999 addressing this. Xilinx is finalizing a longer term plan which assures full, un-interrupted supply of the CoolRunner products.

Will the Xilinx part number be different than the Philips Semiconductors part number?

At the beginning of this year, Xilinx we will start the conversion through the normal PCN process to a new Xilinx part number nomenclature. This new part number's prefix will be "XCR".

Will I be informed of the change in Philips Semiconductors part numbers to Xilinx?

Yes, a PCN will be issued informing of the part numbering change. Customers will be able to continue ordering to the Philips part number during the normal Xilinx PCN transition times.
