Founded in 1986, Silicon & Software Systems employs nearly 300 engineering
professionals. We are experts in designing solutions, which combine the speed of
silicon with the flexibility of software. We have a high degree of expertise in implementing
a hardware/software co-design approach and provide all the key elements of integrated
system design under one roof.
Our services include specification and system partitioning, board and FPGA design,
and hardware and software system integration. Our emphasis is on supporting customers
fully from initial design specification and layout stages, right through to production,
test and type approval, whether for prototyping or high volume manufacture.

Recent successful project completions include:
- 30K Gate FPGA - Design of several telecommunications system level functions (e.g.
ISDN router, HDLC controllers) into a single FPGA. The design was implemented in
VHDL with extensive simulation resulting in first-time-right delivery.
- Digital Video - Development of an evaluation platform for a Set-Top-Box based
on a Test IC then under design. As the complete specification of the IC interfaces
was not available, design flexibility was added using FPGAs. The design aims accomplished
included IC debug and early software development and test.
- IC Prototyping - Development of an FPGA prototype of a 250K gate IC in a number
of high density PLDs. The task included hardware development as well as the synthesis
and partitioning of the device across FPGAs. The platform provided complete system
functionality leading to increased test coverage and accelerated software development.
Areas of Expertise
S3 has nearly 10 years experience in using Xilinx solutions. Target application
areas include telecommunications (e.g. mobile base station controllers, ISDN switching),
digital video, PCI interfaces and Prototyping of "System-on-a-Chip" ICs.
Our most recent experience is with XC4000 series and the Virtex families. Currently
supported tools include Leonardo and Synopsys for synthesis and Model Technologies
and Leapfrog for simulation.
