Notes:
Communications application, traditionally one of the strongest FPGA market segments, benefit from FPGA solutions. The ability to test new computationally intensive communications algorithms such as Turbo codes and MAP decoders (yields 1.5 dB better signal to noise for high data rates) in real time over a real channel helps to speed the introduction of the new standards such as CDMA2000 and WCDMA.
FPGAs move digital processing closer to the antenna enabling cellular infrastructure smart antennas. Algorithms can also independently process signals from two antennas and dynamically pick the best results.
ãSoftware radioä now becomes ãconfigurable radioä. FPGAs process data sample rate above 100 MHz. Satellite modems, cellular infrastructure, and military radios will be among the first to benefit from a fully programmable solutions
