Internet Audio (MP3) Reference Design



The Xilinx Internet Audio (MP3) reference design is based on the CoolRunner XPLA3 CPLD and the Micronas MAS3507D MP3 decoder.  The reference design provides a low power consumption, low-cost and efficient solution for a fully featured MP3 Internet audio player, where time-to-market is paramount. 

Reference design key features:
  • MPEG1 and MPEG2 layer 2 and 3 audio decoding
  • Supports MPEG2.5 (MPEG2 layer 3 low bit rate)
  • 4MB FLASH memory for music storage
  • Extremely low power consumption
    • CoolRunner CPLD consumes only 1.1mA during operation
    • CoolRunner CPLD consumes only 70uA during standby
The CoolRunner XPLA3 is used as the system controller. The functional diagram is show below:
