XILINX DONATES $400,000 IN PRODUCTS TO UNIVERSITY IN CHINA

SAN JOSE, Calif., December 16, 1998 – Continuing a long tradition of supporting higher education worldwide, Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ: XLNX) today announced a recent donation of programmable logic products valued at more than $400,000 to Fudan University in Shanghai, China.  The products will be used to equip the new Programmable Logic Applications and Training Center at the university's Department of Electrical Engineering.  The training center is being set up in conjunction with Insight, Asia Pacific SEA the Xilinx distributor in China.

“We are extremely pleased to assist Fudan University in the rapid expansion of its electronics science programs,” said Patrick Kane, manager of the Xilinx University Program.  “These products will play an integral role in training electrical engineering students in the use of the most advanced digital technologies. Hands-on knowledge of this technology will help students become more productive and valuable contributors to China's growing electronics industry.”

Xilinx donated Alliance Series and Foundation Series software tools to set up more than 50 workstations for students to learn how to program Xilinx field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) and complex programmable logic devices (CPLDs).   The donation also included a number of demonstration boards equipped with Xilinx low-cost Spartan FPGA devices.  The demonstration boards allow the students to perform real-world tests of designs in silicon.

Established in 1985, the Xilinx University Program has been instrumental in adding programmable logic to the curriculum of more than 1,000 universities worldwide. Xilinx encourages universities to use programmable logic in their laboratories and classrooms through both donations and substantial discounts on Xilinx software and hardware. The program offers unequaled university support by providing hands-on workshops in locations around the world, on-line training and presentation materials, on-line example courses, and other services.  More information about the program is available at www.xilinx.com/programs/univ.htm
