XILINX OFFERS NEW CORES THROUGH THE INTERNET

SAN JOSE, Calif., August 18, 1998—Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ: XLNX), today announced the availability of new LogiCORE modules available through the company's CoreLINX web site. The CoreLINX site provides new cores and updates to the users of the Xilinx CORE Generator System. The CoreLINX flow is the first FPGA methodology that allows new cores to be packaged and distributed on the web and easily installed and customized by designers.

"The CoreLINX web-based flow allows Xilinx and its AllianceCORE partners to provide our customers with new cores as soon as they are available," said Babak Hedayati, Xilinx program director of CORE Solutions Marketing. "Our customers require fast, flexible, predictable, and easy-to-use core solutions. In March, we presented our vision for a core delivery mechanism by announcing CORE Generator, Smart-IP and CoreLINX. Since then, we have continued to make strides toward fulfilling that vision."

New Cores

The new LogiCORE products consist of two multipliers (8x8 and 12x12) that are optimized for speed. The 8x8 and 12x12 multipliers accept two variable 2's complement operands. The operands can be input into the multiplier cores every clock cycle. New double-precision output is available every clock cycle after an initial latency period of four or five clock cycles. The performance for the 8x8 multiplier is 130 MHz and the 12x12 multiplier performance is 111 MHz based on the new XC4000XL –08 speed files.

Also available through CoreLINX are three updated LogiCORE modules: a parameterizable serial distributed arithmetic (SDA) FIR Filter, a parallel distributed arithmetic (PDA) FIR Filter, and a SinCos module.

These new cores and the Xilinx CORE Generator tool are available now. A free CD-ROM contains the CORE Generator system version 1.4 application and 30 cores, including FIR filters, adders, accumulators, and multipliers. The tool also contains an interface for access to mainstream, system-level design tools.

Xilinx Smart-IP technology.

Smart-IP combines the power of Xilinx implementation software with the unique features of the Xilinx FPGA architectures. Cores made with Xilinx Smart-IP technology provide flexibility while maintaining their performance and predictability regardless of the size of FPGA in which they are implemented, the number of cores used, or their placement in the device.

Xilinx is the leading innovator of complete programmable logic solutions, including advanced integrated circuits, software design tools, predefined system functions delivered as cores, and unparalleled field engineering support. Founded in 1984 and headquartered in San Jose, Calif., Xilinx invented field programmable gate arrays (FPGA) and commands more than half of the world market for these devices today. Xilinx solutions enables customers to significantly reduce the time required to develop products for the computer, peripheral, telecommunication, networking, industrial control, instrumentation, high-reliability/military, and consumer markets.
