VISICOM CHOOSES XILINX VIRTEX FPGAS
FOR NEXT-GENERATION IMAGE PROCESSING PRODUCTS

Image Processing supplier cites "accelerated product deliveries and cost savings"

SAN JOSE, Calif., July 10, 2000 — Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ:XLNX) announced today that technology leader VisiCom chose Virtex FPGAs for its next generation of customizable real-time video and image processing boards. VisiCom found the programmability and system-level features of the Xilinx® Virtex devices provided the performance required of real-time image processing, while reducing their product's time-to-market.

“Since 1997 VisiCom has experienced great success in developing real-time image processing boards using Xilinx FPGAs,” said Ron Hawkins, vice president of new business development at VisiCom. “Virtex FPGAs provide increased capacity so our engineers spend more time on design and simulation. We have achieved accelerated customer deliveries while realizing substantial cost savings.”

VisiCom specializes in using FPGAs to rapidly deploy customer-specific real-time image and video processing systems for a variety of applications, including semiconductor process equipment, medical imaging, scientific imaging, factory floor automation, and defense/aerospace electronics.  The company's FPGA-based approach combines the real-time performance of hardware-accelerated algorithms with the ability to modify or upgrade the algorithm without physically exchanging the hardware.

“The larger capacity Virtex FPGA allowed us to provide a higher degree of integration on silicon than we had previously attempted.  When combined with software tools and formal design methodologies, we created a feature-rich product that exceeded our customer's requirements.” said Hawkins.

Virtex FPGAs range from 50,000 to 10,000,000 system gates at clock speeds up to 200 MHz, and include many features that address system-level design challenges.  Virtex devices are equipped with up to eight delay lock loops (DLL), allowing for both internal and external clock synchronization with low clock skew.
