You have all received Peter's revision to IR 2123., version 2, dated 8 April 2008. Since the two people most concerned have been satisfied by the revision I ask you to officially vote on the IR. Also enclosed is a small change to IR 2126. Upon reviewing the text I discovered that I had failed to remove one reference to the ill-defined term "independent of context." The additional change is the following: Clause 10.5 The context of overload resolution ... (same as before) Change the paragraph reading: "d) The rules that require the type of an aggregate or string literal to be determinable solely from the enclosing complete context. Similarly, the rules that require the type of the prefix of an attribute, the type of the expression of a case statement, or the type of the operand of a type conversion to be determinable independently of the context." To: "d) The rules that require the type of an aggregate or string literal to be determinable solely from the enclosing complete context. Similarly, the rules that require that the meaning of the prefix of an attribute must be determinable independently of the attribute designator and independently of the fact that it is the prefix of an attribute." This change works because we have covered these cases by redefining the meaning of "complete context." Please vote on these ASAP. Peter is sitting at his desk, inkwell open and quill pen in hand, ready to incorporate these final changes into the LRM, which will then be submitted for IEEE ballot. We need to move rapidly if we want VHDL-2008 to be issued in 2008.
