Sri,
FYI - myself and Patrick got together during the week and created the $table_model requirements we determined based on user input we have gotten. We hope these will prove helpful in moving forward with $table-model specification.

Here is the requirement list we came up with;

Table Model Requirements.
-------------------------

1. Data may be arranged as:
      - a scattered set of points
      - on a set of isolines

The input data format should clearly define the structure so that it's obvious to users how the tabel_model function is applied to the data. The interpolation algorithm will also depend on the structure, so documenting that structure in the LRM is necessary to documenting how it is interpolated.

2. The format and use-model should be reasonably intuitive to users who are not table-modeling experts so they can create table-models easily.

3. Sections

The data file should support the concept of sections. An example might be sections for various corners of a model.

4. Units

The data file should allow units to be associated with the data.

5. Multiple dependents

The data file may contain >1 dependent. The user needs a way to specify which dependent(s) they wish to interpolate. This has also been called "skipping columns".

6. Closest lookup

Instead of doing an interpolation on the data in a particular dimension, users want to do a closest lookup.

7. Independent scale

The independent data may be sampled on a log scale rather than a linear scale. The interpolator should know this and act accordingly.

Thanks,
