All, I just found out that the standard prohibits analog functions to be called from analog functions. Is there a particular reason for this restriction? I couldn't find any such restrictions in Verilog 1364-2001 or SystemVerilog 1800-2005. The standard (LRM 2.2) says in section 4.6.3 that an analog function shall only be called within an analog block. As analog functions are defined outside analog blocks this prohibits analog function calls from within another analog function's body. Also it makes the first restriction on analog functions (an analog function shall not call itself) superfluous...
