There is an application note called
"Using the Xilinx Interface 4.0 with XACT 5.x" that
details various workarounds you may use to process
a 4.0 (pre-9404), pre-Unified Concept or Composer
design using the pre-9404 interfaces and XACT 5.x.


Solution 1:

This application note is available by request from
Xilinx Technical Support.  It is also available in
PostScript format via ftp from ftp.xilinx.com from
swhelp/cadence.  The name of the Acrobat file is

   ftp://ftp.xilinx.com/pub/swhelp/cadence/pre5cds3.pdf

Note that this application note is only meant to be
used as a last resort for processing pre-existing
Cadence designs, as no further bug fixes are planned
for the pre-9404 interfaces, nor will there be
support for new architectures, including XC7000, 9500, 4000E,
5200, and 4000EX)

Anyone doing new Xilinx designs should upgrade to
the latest Cadence release (9404 or later) to take
advantage of the Unified libraries, timing-driven
routing, and relationally placed library macros.
