Workview Office 7.31: ViewDraw not installed; license-based installer does not work

Record #2721

Product Family: Software

Product Line: ViewLogic

Problem Title:
Workview Office 7.31: ViewDraw not installed; license-based installer
does not work

Problem Description:
Keywords: OEM1, OEM2, ViewDraw, install, vsec, license

Urgency: HOT

The instructions that have been included with the Xilinx shipments of
Workview Office 7.31 describe the use of the license-based installer. Using
this methodology, "OEM1" or "OEM2" is entered as the Serial Number to select
the subset of tools enabled by Standard and Extended licenses, respectively.

However, we have seen problems with this installation methodology. One
workaround is to skip the OEM1 or OEM2 keyword and manually select the
programs to be installed.

Another workaround it to use the keyword OEM when asked for the Serial Number.

Please follow the instructions here instead of those found on Page 2 of the
Workview Office Quickstart document. Do NOT use the OEM1 or OEM2 Serial
Numbers to describe your license.

Solution 1:

If you choose OEM as a Serial Number, but ViewDraw, ViewSim, etc. are not
installed, it may be due to the license.dat file. If this file is in Unix
format, the Viewlogic installer will not be able to see the products
authorized, and will only install a few products, like Help and the Workview
Office toolbar.

To see if your license is in Unix format, open the Workview Office toolbar,
and from the left-most icon, select About Workview Office. Click on the Tech
Support button and then select the license.dat file. If the license appears
in the right-hand window as one or two long lines, then it is in Unix format.
A license file in DOS format will have a carrige return after each feature.

To workaround this problem, you can do one of two things:

1. Modify the license.dat file so it is in DOS format.	Unix to DOS converters
are available as freeware or shareware, and some text editors (like
Professional File Editor) have this feature included. Re-run the install
after converting the license.dat to DOS.

2. Run a custom install described in Solution 1, then move the license.dat file
to the WVOFFICE\STANDARD directory. Even though the installer will not be able
to read the features, the tools themselves will.

Solution 2:

Workview Office 7.31 Installation Instructions

The Xilinx Exclusive license that has been sent with this upgrade only
authorizes a subset of the many Workview Office products available on the
CD-ROM. In order to minimize the disk space used to install the Xilinx
Exclusive version of Workview Office, only select the products for which you
have been authorized.

  1. Insert the CD-ROM into the drive and execute WVOINST.EXE.

  2. Enter your name, company and a serial number. Make up any Serial Number,
but do NOT use OEM1 or OEM2. Click Next

  3. Select a "Node Locked" installation (default). Click Next

  4. You will then be prompted to insert the license.dat floppy disk. Either
select the directory where the license.dat exists, or select Skip. If
you choose Skip, you will have to copy the license.dat to the
\wvoffice\standard directory after the installation has completed.

  5. Select "Install" and choose the destination directory. Click Next

  6. Select "Custom". (Full will install ALL Viewlogic software) Click Next

  7. Now you may choose the programs to install. Click on the check marks to
select or deselect products. Base and Standard customers should only
select VIEWDRAW, VIEWSIM, and EDIF (EDIF is only required for M1 users).
Extended customers may also select VIEWSYNTHESIS.	Only select the tools
     that you plan on using.

  8. Click Next three times to begin the installation.

Please refer to the Workview Office Quickstart document, Page 3, and the
Viewlogic Interface and Tutorials Guide (in the Online Docs) to complete
the installation.

Once the installation has been completed, add the following line to the
bottom of the powervie.ini file:

EXCLUSIVE 38

The powervie.ini file is located in \wvoffice\standard directory and you may
edit it with any text editor. Please note that the "EXCLUSIVE 38" must be on
its own line in the powervie.ini file in order for the software to function.

The Viewlogic security block must be connected to the parallel port before
the Xilinx security block. Windows NT 4.0 users must also install the
Sentinel Driver to be able to access the Viewlogic security block.
See (Xilinx Solution 2699) for details on how to install this driver.
