Licensing the Alliance version 1.4 software (PC and UNIX)

Record #3380

Product Family: Software

Product Line: Merged Core

Problem Title:
Licensing the Alliance version 1.4 software (PC and UNIX)

Problem Description:
Keywords: A1.4, license, license.dat, LM_LICENSE_FILE, install

Urgency: Standard

General Description: The following are general instructions for
licensing the new Alliance 1.4 release. For instructions about
specific licensing errors you may be recieving, please refer to
(Xilinx Solution 2547).

Solution 1:

Instructions for First Time Users of the Xilinx M1 or Alliance Software and
Do Not Have a Fully Authorized License File from Xilinx.

The Xilinx Allince 1.4 software comes with a temporary license which is not
fully functional, however will allow the use of most of the functions of
the software. This allows you to evaluate the software without risk as
well as allows you to use the Xilinx software right out of the box.

For Windows 95 and NT users: (Node-locked, Uncounted)
---------------------------

Upon installing the software, this license will automatically be copied to
the specified location during install if a file by the same name
(license.dat) does not already exist.

If the file was not copied to the system, then this may be done manually by
copying the license.dat file from the root directory of the core tools CD
to the desired location on the system or network. Once the file is copied
to the system, an environment varaible called LM_LICENSE_FILE must be
created or appended to point to this license file. If one does not exist,
then a new environment variable need to be defined in the Autoexec.bat
(Windows 95) or System Properties --> Environment (Windows NT). The
varaiable should be similar to:

set LM_LICENSE_FILE =c:\flexlm\license.dat

If the variable is already set for other software, the Xilinx license path
may be appended to the existing LM_LICENSE_FILE vaiable:

set LM_LICENSE_FILE =c:\flexlm\license.dat;c:\any_dir\other_lic.dat

for Viewlogic Workview Office 7.3.1 and earlier version Customers, specify
the path as the following (not for WVO 7.4 and later):

set LM_LICENSE_FILE =c:\flexlm\license.dat,;c:\any_dir\wvo_lic.dat

Note: In all examples above, it is assumed the Xilinx license file was
copied to c:\flexlm\license.dat. If it was placed elsewheer or renamed to
a different file name, substitue in the appropriate path and filename in
place of c:\flexlm\license.dat.

If this environent variable is correctly setup and pointing to a valid
Xilinx license file, see (Xilinx Solution 2547) for debugging suggestions.

For UNIX users:
--------------

Upon installation of the software, the temperary license will automatically
be copied from the CD if the directory exists, and a file by the name given
in the LM_LICENSE_FILE variable does not exist.

If the file was not copied to the system, then this may be done manually by
copying the license.dat file from the root directory of the core tools CD
to the desired location on the system or network. Once the file is copied to th
e system, an environment varaible called LM_LICENSE_FILE must be
created or appended to point to this license file. The following line(s)
are suggested to be added to the .cshrc file or source script for the
Xilinx tools.

if $?LM_LICENSE_FILE then
     setenv LM_LICENSE_FILE </path/to/xilinx/license>:${LM_LICENSE_FILE}
else
     setenv LM_LICENSE_FILE </path/to/xilinx/license>
endif

For users how are not using CSH or TCSH as thier shell environments, see
(Xilinx Solution 2499) for proper environments for other shell
environments.

If this environent variable is correctly setup and pointing to a valid
Xilinx license file, see (Xilinx Solution 2547) for debugging suggestions.

Solution 2:

Instruction for Users of Previous versions of the Software or
If You Have a Fully Authorized License File from Xilinx.

The following instructions are for a customers who have been using the M1.3
version of our software or who are re-installing A1.4:

If the software was working with the previous license, then no changes need
to be made to the license file or LM_LICENSE_FILE environment variable.

If you currently do not have a valid license to run the software, please
refer to resolution 1, Instructions for First Time Users of the Xilinx M1
or Alliance Software and Do Not Have a Fully Authorized License File from
Xilinx.

If you have a valid license but your machine is not setup to use it or if
you are seeing licensing/security errors when running the Xilinx Alliance
1.4 software see the following instructions.

For Windows 95 and Window NT users: (Node-Locked, Uncounted)
----------------------------------

Copy the file to the system or conneted network if it is not there already.
Once the file is copied to the system, an environment varaible called LM_LICENSE
_FILE must be created or appended to point to this license file.
If one does not exist, then a new environment variable need to be defined in the
Autoexec.bat (Windows 95) or System Properties --> Environment
(Windows NT). The varaiable should be similar to:

set LM_LICENSE_FILE =c:\flexlm\license.dat

If the variable is already set for other software, the Xilinx license path
may be appended to the existing LM_LICENSE_FILE vaiable:

the path as the following (not for WVO 7.4 and later):

set LM_LICENSE_FILE =c:\flexlm\license.dat,;c:\any_dir\wvo_lic.dat

copied to c:\flexlm\license.dat.

Copy the license file to the system or network if it is not there already.
Once the file is copied to the system, an environment varaible called
LM_LICENSE_FILE must be created or appended to point to this license file.
The following line(s) are suggested to be added to the .cshrc file or
source script for the Xilinx tools.

if $?LM_LICENSE_FILE then
     setenv LM_LICENSE_FILE </path/to/xilinx/license>:${LM_LICENSE_FILE}
else
     setenv LM_LICENSE_FILE </path/to/xilinx/license>
endif

For users how are not using CSH or TCSH as thier shell environments, see
(Xilinx Solution 2499) for proper environments for other shell

If this environent variable is correctly setup and pointing to a valid
Xilinx license file, see (Xilinx Solution 2547) for debugging suggestions.
