FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

XILINX SHIPS COMPLETE INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY SOLUTION FOR VIRTEX-II FPGAs

Cores and design services available from Xilinx and partners that support
Virtex-II designs at the time of silicon availability

SAN JOSE, Calif. - January 15, 2001 - Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ:XLNX) announced today the immediate availability of a diverse suite of new and enhanced intellectual property (IP) cores for use with the Xilinx next generation Virtex series FPGAs. An industry first, the Virtex-II devices provide designers with a programmable platform to more easily integrate both soft and hard IP cores. Xilinx will discuss Virtex-II devices and the cores at length at the XtremeDSP/Virtex-II Technical Simulcast. The event will be held at the Santa Clara Marriott Hotel on January 25, 2001 and will be broadcast live via satellite to movie theaters in 45 North American cities. For complete agenda and registration information, visit http://www.xilinx.com/events/seminars/xtremedsp.htm.

"NMI sees the advent of Virtex-II devices as a major step forward in the provision of FPGAs with true system-level characteristics," said Kevin Heawood, marketing director at NMI Electronics, a Xilinx AllianceCORE™ partner. "A Virtex-II device not only has more logic resources, more memory and faster routing, it also incorporates sophisticated clock and impedance management. These latter features are just as critical to the design of real-world systems as raw logic and memory. We are already incorporating the Virtex-II devices into our MicroEngine Single Board Computer family."

Through the AllianceCORE program, over 20 third-party IP providers are continually developing and enhancing cores for use in the Virtex-II devices. Products in development include a DSP development board and cores that support embedded processing and networking applications. Additionally, all providers can support customers with Virtex-II FPGA versions of their AllianceCORE products and over 100 XPERTS design services partners are trained to assist customers with their Virtex-II designs.

ARC Cores (UK), also an AllianceCORE partner, achieved a sixty-percent speed increase in their 32-bit configurable processor core ported into a Virtex-II device. "The availability of the Virtex-II devices means that, for the first time, we have a platform that can make FPGA system-level solutions a reality," said Kamiar Sehat, director of engineering at ARC Cores. "The incredible capacity of a Virtex-II device with its large on-chip memories and embedded multipliers, enable us to provide very high performance configurable ARC processors to our customers."

New Xilinx LogicCORE™ products focus primarily on DSP and networking applications for the communications market. The latest IP release for Virtex-II devices includes new and enhanced cores such as an 8b/10b Encoder and Decoder, parameterized Synchronous and Asynchronous FIFOs, and a Single and Dual-port Block Memory Generator. The release also includes cores that are part of the Xilinx XtremeDSP initiative (see November 21, 2000 press release) such as a FIR Filter Generator, parameterized Multiply and Accumulate (MAC) and a Multiplier Generator. The new cores support the Virtex-II devices' dedicated multipliers and other new basic elements.

Xilinx PCI solutions for Virtex-II devices include 64-bit, 66 MHz PCI-X as well as 32- and 64-bit PCI interfaces for designs up to 66 MHz, enabling customers to design fully PCI compliant high-performance systems. The Xilinx Real-PCI™ and PCI-X solutions enable functions in communication systems and storage area network products such as clustered servers, Ultra 3 and Ultra320 SCSI, Fibre Channel based RAID arrays, and multi-port Gigabit devices.
