Q: Who sells the System Generator?

Q: What is the price for the System Generator?
A: Price: $1,995
Special offer until February 28, 2001: $995 

Q: What FPGA families can I target the System Generator to? 
A: In the first release of System Generator, Virtex and Spartan-II families are supported within System Generator. Going forward, the System Generator charter is to support new FPGA architectures. There are no plans to support the XC4000 families or SpartanXL. 

Q: What tools do customers need from The MathWorks and from Xilinx to use the System Generator for DSP designs in Xilinx FPGAs? 
A: From the MathWorks a user needs MATLAB (release 5.3.1) and Simulink Block Library 3.0. From Xilinx a user needs Xilinx Alliance Series software v3.1i (with a front-end synthesis compiler purchased from one of the Alliance-partner synthesis vendors). The Xilinx CORE Generator System, included with Xilinx Alliance series software package, is required to run the System Generator.

Q: What platforms does System Generator run on? 
A: The first production version supports Windows NT and Windows 98. UNIX support will be planned for later releases (TBD). 

Q: What is the approximate cost for the tools from The MathWorks?
A: You must use the following prices for an indication only.

  • MATLAB: $1,900 Individual PC
  • Simulink: $2,800 Individual PC
