Overview

The hardware-programmable capabilities of the FPGA may be the approach for your design if your DSP processor chip is not up to the task and a custom IC solution is too time consuming and not adaptable to your changing requirements. Les Mintzer, Consultant is focused on DSP designs for the Xilinx FPGA.

Services Offered

• Preliminary studies to determine if your algorithm is suitable for FPGA implementation.
  
  
• Preliminary design with sufficient detail to determine gate count and performance level as well as providing your FPGA designer with the necessary information to complete the design. Support provided to bring the design to completion.
  
  
• On-site instruction in useful design techniques - particularly distributed arithmetic. General DSP background information also available.

Expertise

Les Mintzer, retired as a Principal Engineering Specialist in Digital Signal Processing from Rockwell International, holds several patents, has co-authored two DSP textbooks, and published over a dozen articles in the field. His 40 year career as a circuits and system designer has included designs in:

• Digital computers and peripheral devices
• Navigation systems
• DSP-based sonar
• Radar and image processing systems
• DSP controllers for ring laser gyros

Concurrent with his full-time engineering work Les has taught classes at both UCLA and UCI including:

• Logic design
• Computer architecture
• DSP theory and applications

Les now consults for Momentum Data Systems and is focusing on DSP designs for Xilinx FPGAs.
