FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
MORE THAN 50 IP CORES AVAILABLE
Also available: Spartan-II FAQ and Technical Backgrounder and Spartan-II Announcement SAN JOSE, Calif. - January 10, 2000 - Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ:XLNX) today announced the immediate availability of more than 50 cores for use in the new Spartan™-II family of low-cost FPGAs. This intellectual property includes parameter-driven, Smart-IP-based LogiCORE™ modules and The Real-PCI™ solutions from Xilinx as well as cores from third-party developers in the Xilinx AllianceCORE™ program. "Together, Xilinx and its partners are offering the largest portfolio
of cores ever available simultaneously with the launch of a new FPGA family,"
said Sandeep Vij, vice president of marketing at Xilinx and general manager
of the company's High Volume FPGA Business Unit.
Spartan-II devices can now replace complex functions such as high-performance digital filter functions, Viterbi and Reed Solomon decoders, and SDRAM controllers that formerly required separate application specific standard products (ASSPs). In applications such as these, Spartan-II FPGAs combined with cores optimized for them can now provide a solution that is more economical than ASSPs. In addition, on-chip Spartan-II features eliminate the need for many other simple ASSPs such as phase lock loops, FIFOs, I/O translators and system bus drivers that in the past have been necessary to complete a system design. LogiCORE Modules
The Real-PCI solution for Spartan-II includes Internet-accessible 32-bit and 64-bit PCI LogiCORE modules, synthesizable PCI bridge reference designs with basic DMA and BlockRAM-based FIFOs. A power management reference design is also available. Unparalleled Third-Party Core Support
