Xilinx Solution Summary

The PCI (Peripheral Component Interconnect) has become one of the most popular bus  standards, and is used in a wide variety of applications including personal computers, servers, industrial computers, communication switches, routers, RAID controllers, instrumentation, as well as embedded systems. However, PCI is a significant design challenge; the stringent electrical,  functional, and timing specifications are difficult to meet in any technology-and the standard  continues to evolve to meet the dynamic needs of the industry. 

The Xilinx LogiCORE PCI32 and LogicCORE PCI64 are 5V and 3.3V fully compliant 32-bit  and 64-bit PCI interfaces for up to 66MHz designs. Together, with Spartan-II, they provide a  flexible PCI solution, that is field upgradeable and able to  meet both current and future  requirements for the lowest possible cost. This allows replacement of many ASSPs, For example, a typical PCI design requires additional FPGAs or CPLDs for value added logic devices, all of  this can be integrated with the PCI interface in a single Xilinx Spartan-II FPGA. 

In addition to PCI and glue custom logic, Spartan-II also integrates and replaces numerous system functions, such as HSTL translators, PLL/DLL clock management devices, back plane logic and drivers, SSTL-3 translators and memory, all resulting in savings in cost and board space.
