Like memory products, FPGAs are general purpose devices that benefit
from high volume manufacturing. FPGA automatically move aggressively down
the IC technology processing curve. The number of memory bits and the number
of programmable logic cell both increase as process geometry shrink. Clock
speed increases along with the number of logic cells resulting in the overall
DSP performance gains shown in the table.
The results for DSP are amazing. We see two orders of magnitude increase
in DSP performance capability. Just three years from now two billion MACs
will cost only a dollar.
