Hi all,

here are the minutes. I did my best to capture the most important topics, but sometimes the discussion was too lively (or I was too
brain-dead). I still hope I captured anything of importance.
Please note he AI's at the bottom.

-Michael

Attendees:

Swapnajit
Ghassan
Andrzej
Doug
Joao
Francoise
Ralph
Michael
Clint Olsen (NEW MEMBER)

Approval of minutes from last conference call (24-Sep-2003)
Andrzej proposed, Doug seconded

Technical topics:

1) Swapnajit asked for the status about the questions coming from David Smith. Andrzej was looking for the latest BNF, but was not
able to verify the modifications. Swapnajit proposed to contact David and the person maintaining the BNF to get clarification about
this topic.
... see AI's below ...

2) Doug's proposal.
- Andrzej stated that he still does not believe that this feature is required at all.
- Andrzej: Taking this aside, it would be a pretty elegant feature. One question was about the BNF, in case of tasks only context
makes sense, so tasks should be always have the attribute context ... Shouldn't we not omit this attribute for tasks. Some
discussion about this between Doug and Andrzej. Doug wants to keep the attribute
- Further discussion was taking place about consuming time. Doug stated that e.g. SystemC might consume time even in todays DPI
implementation. Andrzej countered that this will not modify the Verilog time ... Agreement.
- Ralph indicated that with this proposal task is similar to consuming time. How much is time consumption included in the
side-effect defined to be covered by 'context'.
- Joao jumped in with some questions ...
Doug agrees that tasks can never be pure. Both agreed that any task need to interact with the kernel.
Some heavier discussion what the side-effects meant by the 'context' attribute are ...
  Does that include passing time?
SORRY, BUT I AM NOT SURE WE CAME TO A REAL CONCLUSION HERE (Michael)
- Andrzej is still against the whole proposal. It would have made perfectly sense with C-blend, but not in the current state of
SystemVerilog.
- Doug stated that there is one more potential problem w.r.t. the handling of disabled statements.
Swapnajit want to delay the vote until Doug has sent this out. Doug stated that this is just intended to save the
committee some time. We could easily amend this later.

3) Ralph's issues with the BNF.
Swapnajit asked what is the status of it. Ralph indicated these are just minor issues that seemed to be out-of-sync with the rest of
the LRM. Andrzej noted that it looks like inout kind of parameters seemed to have been missed in the LRM. Joao will take care of
this. Ralph just wanted to all three modes appear in all sections.

4) Andrzej indicated that due to new donations there might be new data types coming up. How do we handle this? How can we make sure
that we still are in sync with the other committees. Swapnajit hopes that due to
the current rules for donations, there are no major additions. Besides that we should

Swapnajit welcomed Clint Olsen to the Committee from Intel. He is interested mostly in the VPI extensions.

Meeting adjourned.

Action Items:
1) Andrzej talk to David Smith to clarify the BNF issues
2) Doug to sent amended proposal
3) Joao sent further information about the BNF issues found by Ralph, whenever this is available.
