Minutes:
=========
Ralph proposed acceptance of last meeting' minutes, Joao seconded
Swapnajit will be sending email to the committee scheduling some votes
and polls:
- vote to accept or reject the Mentor DPI task donation.
Please note that this is to whether to accept the donation as the *basis*
for further work by the committee, not that the proposal is accepted
verbatim.
- vote to accept or reject the Novas VCD donation (discussed today)
- poll to accept the erratas
Bassam then presented the Novas VCD donation and gave an overview of
the contents and proposed direction.
Essentials of the idea is that instead of defining or updating a file
format, to instead define an API (by extending VPI) to access waveform data.
Discussion of Doug's disable DPI task/function problem. Doug send email
last Friday to the sv-cc mailing list describing the problem and a
couple of proposed solutions.
Andrzej noted that this issue exists only in the presence of exported DPI
tasks (otherwise it is merely a latent issue in function, as the specific
problem cannot be triggered)
Joao noted that of the 2 solutions, forbidding disables on call chains
containing DPI is quite a drastic solution and needs to be very
carefully deliberated before choosing to go that way. The alternate
solution requires relying on a user to follow a "disable
protocol". Joao expressed concerns on trusting user side code to
follow any kind of "disable protocol" *without* having some well
defined mechanism for the simulator to validate that the disable
protocol has been handled.
Doug mentioned that we've had a common way to describe system behavior
in the presence of errors: once a user has performed a "error" behavior,
system behavior is then "unpredictable" ;-)
Andrzej mentioned that he has sent Joao his errata proposal for the DPI grammar
rules. Joao will review and then forward to sv-cc for polling.
Joao mentioned that he has reviewed Ralph's errata proposal and that there
are no issues with this errata. The next step is to poll the group and if
accepted then forward the errata to David Smith.
ACTION ITEMS:
ALL: Review and discuss in mailing list Bassam's "VCD" API proposal
ALL: Review and discuss Doug's disable problem and solutions
Swapnajit: send email with details and schedule for votes and polls
