RE: [sv-cc] item 50 again (string name)

During the original discussion of DPI string specifiers, two reasons
were given for not using "DPI" as the
deprecated mode's string:

1. It may give the user the impression that the deprecated mode is
something the 'real' or definitive mode.
It certainly would give no clue to the contrary.

2. Having neither the deprecated nor current modes accept "DPI" as the
string causes our existing users,
who are relatively few in number, to make a conscious choice about
which mode they wish to use.

The minutes for the 12/15 meeting mentions this string issue and shows
the adopted recommendation
(DPI-C for current and DPI-3.1a for deprecated mode) passing with none
opposed or abstaining.

We need to discuss again item 50 with regard to the
dpi_string_specifier.
Stuart brought up the fact that the "DPI" string is not legal as
per item 50, this will create
incompatibility with previous legal sv31a code. He is asking for
a rational for why this
is not now legal and why the string DPI-sv31a is replacing DPI
string.

Stuart is planning to attend the meeting tomorrow.
