Kevin,
I have been in vacation since 11-Dec-2002 (and attended all conference calls since then -- with exception of the last one, which I
missed because my son became sick and I had to take care of him then). As such I could hardly state that the vote was premature. I
also never indicated any issue with the deadline. My only problem was that I interpreted the lack of response from Swapnajit and
Ghassan as agreement to your proposal for extending the deadline.
The (very late) response from Swapnajit came at a time that basically excluded me (and would have excluded anybody else in similar
time zones) from the vote. My hope is that there will be more global awareness in the future. That's all I wanted to say.
B.t.w. my vote would not have changed anything:
a) anybody else did already vote NO, so there would never be a majority
b) I would have either ABSTAINED now (for nearly the same reasons John S. indicated), or also voted NO later, when - as _you_
requested - we would have to vote between Joao's and your proposal. This does not mean I don't like your proposal (there are some
very good and interesting ideas in it); it is just too complicated for a simple and convinient interface in my eyes.
Joao's proposal is much easier, simple and will solve the interfacing problems of most people.
Kevin, sorry not for going with you on this one. My hope is that some of your problems are solved by the C++ committee sometimes.
Anyway, this is a good time to wish everybody a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Have a good time.
-Michael
