Storage Products

Combining microcontroller cores, logic, analog functions and memory into multifunction chips, to meet the needs of the storage industry, is the forte' of Atmel's Storage Products Group.

A series of devices that support high capacity, flexible media products, HDD and DVD, are shipping or are in their final development stages. Atmel's Storage Product Group is developing a complete DVD/CD chipset that supports all of the presently released DVD Read, Writeable and Re-Writeable standards. CD-RW and the common CD standards are also supported.

The DVD Preamp, AT78C1505, is presently available for volume shipment. An evaluation board is also available.

The DVD 5X Read Channel, AT78C1503, includes servo arithmetic functions and we will be sampling in Q1-2000. An evaluation board will also be available.

Device specifications for the following products are also available under NDA from Storage Products Marketing (evaluation boards will be available):

The HDD Interface/Servo Combo, AT78C1401, with embedded ARM7TDMITM and AVRŽ microcontrollers, create a programmable device that allows customer controlled formats and timing. High-servo sampling rates are supported.

The DVD Controller, AT78C1501, with embedded ARM7TDMI and AVR microcontrollers, creates a programmable device for maximum product flexibility. Nonstandard optical storage products are possible with this programmable flexibility.

The DVD Servo System, AT78C1502, incorporates multiple AVR RISC microcontrollers to support high bandwidth servo systems, without the need for DSPs. Fully programmable filters and timing are supported.

The Adaptive Laser Power Controller (ALPC), AT78C1504, controls a laser power amplifier to provide optimum control of the laser diode. In addition, a series of laser power amplifiers that interface to ALPC will be available shortly, from Atmel's TEMIC division. Full product application support is available from Atmel's Storage Products Group engineers.
